Dear Parish Family,
Father Bryan's Weekly Column
Jesus said, ‘Follow me!’, but at the heart of it all, what does that mean?
As the parish of Our Lady of Charity the invitation to follow Jesus is as clear to us today as it was to those Jesus invited in the Gospel. The question is, how do we respond?
This weekend is
Volunteer Weekend for Summerfest
I have asked that, as a parish, we pray for the success of our Summerfest because it is a major fundraiser for the work we do at Our Lady of Charity.
I also asked that you prayerfully consider how you can support our Summerfest endeavor, and to consider volunteering to help in any way that you can. This weekend I ask that you please commit to one thing or one way in which you can volunteer and help make our Summerfest a success
. Also, during the month of July I will be highlighting the “status of the parish” both in homilies (beginning weekend of July 9 & 10) and in the bulletin (beginning next weekend). We need to know where we have been, where we are today, and where we are going, sacramentally, spiritually, and financially as we move forward as a parish. I will be particularly highlighting changes in our Religious Education Program for the coming year, and some exciting opportunities for all of us! Keep Smiling,
Father Bryan's statement on Orlando
Dear Parish Family, Happy Father’s Day! To all fathers, grandfathers, Godfathers and to all men who are role models to our young people, thank you for your love and guidance. Today we celebrate you in a special way. This past week we witnessed another act of hatred in our country. These terrible acts of violence and hatred are becoming too commonplace. What is the answer? Here is an insight from our Bishops;
"As bishops, we support measures that control the sale and use of firearms and make them safer - - especially efforts that prevent their unsupervised use by children or anyone other than the owner -- and we reiterate our call for sensible regulation of handguns."
(“Responsibility, Rehabilitation and Restoration: A Catholic Perspective on Crime and Criminal Justice” November 2000)
A Vatican statement said,
"The terrible massacre that has taken place in Orlando, with its dreadfully high number of innocent victims, has caused in Pope Francis, and in all of us, the deepest feelings of horror and condemnation, of pain and turmoil."
We need tolerance, understanding, patience, selfcontrol…
WE NEED GOD.
We must recognize that when ANY person hurts, we all hurt, laws will not change attitudes... Love will...
Let us pray for all who are suffering ...
To all who are hurting and to all victims...
We are all God's children ...
Love more... Hate less... We ALL win!
